A wonderful evening at Beit HaNasi. Congratulations to Brig Gen Ala Abu Rukon on his promotion and appointment to Military Secretary to the President. Ala replaces Brig Gen Boaz Hershkovitz who is leaving the @IDF after an exemplary career devoted to Israel and its people.

Our Druze brother Brig. Gen. Dr. Ala Abu Rukon is 47 and has just returned to Israel after serving the critical post as the IDF Military Attaché in China.

BG Ala has served in the IDF for 25 years, beginning as a soldier and commander in the Paratroopers Brigade, and continuing on for over a decade in a series of command posts in the Intelligence Branch before accepting the command of the Havat Hashomer soldier development center and the post in China.

BG Ala is married and the father of four children, and holds a Ph.D. in Middle East Studies from Bar-Ilan University.

President Rivlin congratulated Abu Rukon on the appointment and praised him as “an impressive and professional addition to the team of advisers at Beit HaNasi.”

“I am confident that his experience and skills will further deepen the strong ties with the IDF and the whole security establishment,” Rivlin stated.
